How many people are there that could perform a “reasonably well-executed search” ? Many people exhibited significant difficulties that ranged across nearly every aspect of the search process. It appears that many people just don’t understand how to find the information they seek using Google effectively.

So how to Google it effectively? How to get more out of Google?

Here are some tips and tricks for you. You can get far more specific results than you would by using generic Google search terms. Here are some of the most useful.

tipifam
Searches for the exact phrase, not each of the words separately. (In this case, ‘tipifam’)

site:tipifam.com
Only searches the pages of that site. (In this case, ‘tipifam.com’)

filetype:pdf
Searches only results of the file type you designated. (In this case, ‘pdf’)

intitle:tipifam
Shows results with that word in the title. (In this case, ‘tipifam’)

author:blue
This will search papers by Blue rather than papers involving the word “blue”.

define:beauty
You can use this for quick word definitions.

-UFO
Excludes this term from the search. (In this case, ‘UFO’)

~college
Also searches related words, such as “university”.

2010..2011
Shows all results from within the designated timerange.

And you can convert unit easily by using, for example, 100 pounds in kilograms.

It’s not all but it’s a good start for you to become a Google master.
